Kreuzkarschneid, little pearl in the Triebental

Open
The Kreuzkarschneid at the entrance to the Triebental is the perfect mountain for beginners. The Kreuzkarschneid at the entrance to the Triebental is the perfect mountain for beginners.
The ski tour to the Kreuzkarschneid leads across forest roads, clearings and meadows.

The terrain is rather flat except for the last slope, which is steeper than 30°. If you don't have a lot of skiing ability, you can switch the descent to forest roads and flat meadows. The last, steep slope before the summit can be skipped if necessary.

More information

From the north

On the A9, the Pyhrnautobahn, take the Trieben exit. From there take the B 114 in the direction of Judenburg to Hohentauern. After 6 km turn left into the Triebental valley. Meeting point Gasthaus Braun after approx.

2 km on the right-hand side.

From the south

Via the S36, the Murtalschnellstraße to Judenburg, continue on the B 317 to the junction with the B114 towards Liezen. Follow the road to Hohentauern (approx. 35 km). Drive 3 km in the direction of Trieben. Turn right into the Triebental valley. Meeting point Gasthaus Braun after about 2 km on the right-hand side.

From GH Braun, head SW across the flat meadow to the edge of the forest. There you will find a signpost with the route description.

Follow the forest path, which runs along the Ardlingbach stream on the left-hand side, until you reach a fork in the path and take the road to the right. Continue along the forest path to the highest point, where the route turns left into the sparse forest. After a few meters you reach a large meadow, which you follow on the left-hand side. Climb higher in the clear aisle and cross the forest road. You could follow this road to reach the Kreuzkarschneid at a leisurely pace.

However, you can also continue in a south-westerly direction up to around 1600m and cut off the bends in the forest road. At 1600m, the forest road reaches a large meadow that stretches over a gentle ridge and over which you follow the trail towards the summit.

At the beginning of the sparse vegetation, the slope becomes steeper and the steepness of the last 150 vertical meters is certainly more than 30° in places. With a few hairpin bends, you master this slope and reach the summit of the Kreuzkarschneid.

Ascent and descent either via the forest road or via the tracks.
