Seckau Benedictine Abbey
Archduke Johann himself is regarded as the “father of the monastery" due to the fact that after Joseph II dissolved the original Augustinian Canons, Johann secured the continuation of the abbey by giving it to the Radmeister zu Vordernberg. In the late nineteenth century, it was taken over by Benedictine monks from Beuron Archabbey. The tasks and spheres of influence of the episcopalian brothers were wide ranging. The hour-long guided tour explains the history and functioning of the abbey as well as the ecclesiastical/monastic art of today and of yore.
