Reinischkogel

Deutschlandsberg

The Reinischkogel is a 1463 meter high mountain in the Koralpe in the Lavanttal Alps, in the picturesque landscape of the West Styrian Schilcherheimat. Its name is derived from the fact that extensive lands and farms north of it belonged to the Rein Abbey in the Middle Ages and the mountain formed its southern border.

The summit cross on the Reinischkogel was built in 1985 as a hiking destination on Reinischwirt-Grund at the suggestion of Gasthaus Klugbauer. The summit cross (1440m) is about 100 m to the south from the geographical, actual Reinischkogel summit (1463m). In 1990 they built a chapel made entirely of wood with a roof turret and a relatively large arbor. The decisive factor was the fact that the participants at the annual mountain mass at the Reinischkogel summit cross were exposed to mostly bad weather. The chapel, which is dedicated to St. Leonhard, patron saint of livestock and agriculture, was built on the initiative of master carpenter Erwin Lederer from Graz, who also performed the work. The landlord and the material provided the landlord, and money was collected through a building block campaign. In the same year the new chapel was inaugurated by Pastor Gruber from Freiland. The "Peace Bell on the Reinischkogel", cast by J. Grassmayr, Innsbruck, was donated by the Reinischwirt family. The bell was consecrated on June 29, 2003. There is a wooden plaque next to the bell rope with the invitation to ring the bell yourself "... for peace in this world". For a number of years - after a long break - the Landjugend Kloster has organized a mountain mass on the Reinischkogel every year.
