the Mürz Valley cycle path

Wanted: a cycling route for families that offers a bit of everything. Impressive architecture, museums, picturesque spots for a break, stunning landscapes and some water for a quick dip. Plus, alpine mountain landscapes, a scenic valley and some urban vibes. The solution: the Mürz Valley cycle path.

The 68-kilometre-long route starts in Mürzsteg and takes you (mostly) along the river Mürz, all the way to the historic Old Town of Bruck an der Mur.

Did you know? For most parts, the route is slightly downhill, making it a great choice for children and less experienced cyclists.

Our tip: If you would like to enjoy the benefits of electric assistance, you can rent an e-bike in Mürzzuschlag.

Tired, hungry, thirsty – in need of a break?

It’s not just children who need a break from time to time – the grown-ups also need to recharge their batteries during a long ride. Fortunately, the Mürz Valley cycle path is dotted with countless lovely spots for a break.

If you would like to take a dip during your summery cycling tour, we recommend Freizeitteich Urani in Neuberg, the swimming lake in Krieglach or the shores of the river Mürz.

To fuel up for the rest of the ride, drop by one of the many restaurants that line the way and enjoy some local delicacies.

The Mürz Valley cycle path is peppered with natural as well as cultural highlights. For instance, make sure to visit the impressive Neuberg Abbey and the Kaiserhof glass manufactory located on the Abbey premises. Railway fans will enjoy a visit to Südbahnmuseum in Mürzzuschlag with its two locomotive halls, while music lovers should make sure to drop by Brahms-Museum. If you need a little cool down, we recommend a visit to WinterSportMuseum.

If you would like to follow in the footsteps of Peter Rosegger, don’t miss Roseggermuseum, the famous Austrian writer’s summer residence in Krieglach. Fans of knights and noblemen should head to Oberkapfenberg Castle

The cultural highlight of the cycling route is its end point, the historic Old Town of Bruck an der Mur. Make sure to visit Kornmesserhaus, the Eiserne Brunnen, Schlossberg hill and the clock tower!
